Slow Flow Is Bad For Business!

leave a comment »

Latency!  What is Latency? It is that nightmare that will keep your company from moving at an efficient speed. It sneaks up on your organization while it is sleeping, with its ‘Eyes Wide Shut’.  Sorry Mr. Cruise.  It is the last thing you want your end users to deal with, but they do, and they cry and complain, and those who are not so savvy as the others, do not realize it happening, but they are even more unproductive. Because things are just that slow.  It is much like driving on the LA Freeway during rush hour as apposed to doing so at night when things are lest congested. F5 is more like that night drive, a smooth and stress reduced cruise.

I have been hearing much about Wan Optimization as of late and I must say I am beginning to hear many great things about it. However there are many naysayers out there. If you happen to be one of them. Take the time of to learn more about it before shooting it down. F5 offers a bevy of solutions, and WAN optimization just happens to be one of them.

Here are some excerpts taken directly from F5 website off the WAN optimization page:

Business benefits of using F5 for WAN optimization include:

Why do I need WAN optimization?

  • Increased Performance
iSessions accelerates data sent over the WAN with F5’s adaptive compression and data de-duplication.
  • Increased efficiency
Mitigate the effects of latency with F5’s TCP Express and maximize bandwidth utilization.
  • Cost Savings
Expand WAN Capacity and offload CPU-intensive processes from servers.
  • Improved Security
Encrypt data over the WAN with iSessions allowing secure and fast transfer of business critical information.

Ok that is the why. Now it is up to you to dig in a bit deeper and uncover this great solution for yourself.  If you are not dealing with just a slowing network. Check out all that they have to offer or just ask me.

F5 is the company that has to tools to make your more agile. So get with it or get left behind.

Acknowledgement Of The Whole

idea

I was sitting at my desk this past week and one of our many awesome leaders stopped by my desk to share with me his thoughts on what I am doing here at FirmWire. I must say it was to my surprise and I kinda basked in it a bit. After he left of course. Now I did not come here to brag about the acknowledgment that I have received thus far, no I am not here for that at all. But to point out the fact that there is much going on in and around our companies due to this economy that we must acknowledge, no matter how small or how large it is. We are seeing a “surplus of lack”, that is bending us in many directions, and this is something that I understand well. None of us are alone in what is going on today. But we must begin to see that we are in the rebuilding stages as well. If we do not see that we will fall short of the goals that are set for us.

Now to illustrate a bit of my point. This leader was not part of my department, but somehow made his way over to me to state his piece. This I find awesome in many ways and not for the glory, but that someone took the time to extend themselves to point something out. If we do this in all we do we will have a fighting chance to change the company around us and the company we keep. Also be able to identify the small things going on within the whole. Whether it is technology or the people who run it at its best.

This starts in many areas. Since this is  a technology focused blog I should get to it before I bore you. Let me make my point. It is clear to me now,  more than ever that we must take the time out to extend ourselves in order to make the changes around us create that effect that we so desire day in and day out. We must apply team work as well as focus on the technologies that will take our company to that next level. All technology used within is to support the greater good of that company.

Now you must not go out and buy every single idea that comes to mind. That would be a waste of money all together. What must be done now, is taking time out to identify what will work and what will not. Gaining knowledge on the tools and ideas out there and then finding that Tailor that will fit it to your precise need.

With Vitalization, Networking, Business Continuity,  Software Deployment etc., things have become quite daunting. But if we take the time out to Acknowledge each component and understand how it fits into the whole, we will begin the tailoring, that will be well suited for our companies.

Some of you I may have lost in my brief rant and others may dig what I have to say. My Job at this moment in life is to make sure optimum solution is identified and met. Doing anything other than that is outside of my descriptive. So ask yourself this. Am I paying close attention to the small details that make up the whole? If you answered yes, then you are well on your way to making sure that all identifiable components of the whole are working to their fullest potential or you are soon to upgrade to make sure that they are.  If you answered No then we have some work to do. What have you identified so far?
